Software release readiness assessment using quality gates is an important practice for ensuring that software is stable, tested, approved, and suitable for deployment. In enterprise projects, releases may fail when defects remain unresolved, requirements are not fully verified, documentation is incomplete, performance issues are ignored, or approval steps are skipped. This article discusses how quality gates support disciplined decision-making before software moves from development to testing, user acceptance, staging, and production environments. It explains the role of defect status, test coverage, requirement traceability, build stability, security checks, performance validation, documentation review, and stakeholder approval in assessing release readiness. The article also highlights common challenges such as incomplete test execution, unclear release criteria, late defect discovery, weak coordination between teams, and pressure to deploy unfinished software. A structured quality gate approach is presented to improve release control, reduce production failures, and support reliable software delivery. The study concludes that systematic release readiness assessment improves deployment confidence, strengthens software governance, and reduces operational risk in enterprise applications.
